About the commissioned work:
«Sun’s Daughter» - a piece for fujara and a set of classical musical instruments
Fujara is a bass flute, coming from Slovakia, traditionally a solo instrument played by men who play and sing. This piece for flute, fujara, viola, cello and double-bass moves freely between centuries-old folk traditions and chamber and contemporary music. This unique combination of instruments aims to explore new sonorities and build bridges between tradition and modernity. Immersive, raw, and deeply emotive, the piece beckons listeners into a realm of musical storytelling that is both expansive and profoundly resonant.

Commissioned as part of the KUPP project, by Music Norway and the Norwegian Society for Composers.

About the ensemble:
Tøyen Fil og Klafferi with Michaela Antalová and Adrian Myhr

Tøyen Fil og Klafferi is the name of an imagined sound factory founded in 2010 at Tøyen in Oslo, where the instruments file, trill, bow and blow life into new works of music. The factory workers share a great passion for the development and performance of new music, and their taste for exploration drives them to work within a wide spectrum of different genres. The quartet invites composers of diverse backgrounds and musical orientations to write for the ensemble.

During the past ten years, TFK has given premiere performances of numerous compositions and collaborated with many Norwegian and international composers like Hafdís Bjarnadottir, Jon Øivind Ness, Julian Skar, Gudmundur Steinn Gunnarsson, Lars Skoglund, Carola Bauckholt, Ylva Lund Bergner, Lars Myrvoll, Kristine Tjøgersen, Bergrun Snæbjørnsdottir, Christian Blom, Jessica Sligter, Klaus Holm, Roberta Lazo Valenzuela and Jorge Gómez Elizondo.
